Function and location
The water pump circulates the coolant between the engine block, cylinder head and radiator and keeps the operating temperature constant. An impeller on a mechanically sealed shaft is driven via the poly-V belt and a bolted-on pulley.
It is installed at the front of the Sofim 8140 engine: the large aluminium housing also serves as a mounting bracket and is bolted to the front face of the engine block and timing case, while the side spigot takes the lower radiator hose.
How can you tell a water pump is defective?
- Bearing play or grinding/whistling noises from the pump shaft
- Leakage and coolant loss at the pump housing
- Rising engine temperature up to overheating
- If operation continues: engine damage from overheating

⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying
Note on the box print: the original box also states "Jumper 2500 Diesel" and "Boxer 2500" – this is a known inaccuracy in the manufacturer's printing. Jumper and Boxer models with 2.5 litres have the PSA engine of the DJ5 family and a different water pump. On the Jumper and Boxer, this pump only fits the 2.8-litre Sofim engines; the 2.5-litre is only covered on the Fiat Ducato.

This is NOS (New Old Stock) in the original box, unused. Gasket, O-ring and studs are included; the box itself shows signs of storage.
Does the pump also fit the Jumper or Boxer with 2.5 litres?
No. Despite the misleading "Jumper 2500"/"Boxer 2500" print on the original box, on the Citroën Jumper and Peugeot Boxer this pump only fits the 2.8-litre Sofim engine. The 2.5-litre versions of these model series have a PSA engine with a different water pump.
What happens if the water pump is defective?
Bearing play, running noises or leakage lead directly to overheating and, as a result, engine damage.
