Original ATE tandem master cylinder with part number 24.2120-0505.3, piston diameter 20.64 mm (13/16 inch), new old stock (NOS) from Japan.

Genuine part (ATE / Alfred Teves) · NOS – new old stock · In original box, Made in Japan

Condition of this part

New old stock (NOS) in the original ATE box (printed: "Original spare part from Japan"). Cylinder body without corrosion, reservoir clear and unstained, cap, level warning switch and connector undamaged. The box is rubbed from age and storage and carries old dealer notes (RX7, Mazda from 80). After long storage, the part should be professionally inspected before installation, filled with fresh brake fluid, and the system bled.

Function and location

The master cylinder converts the pedal force amplified by the brake booster into hydraulic pressure and supplies two separate brake circuits. If one circuit fails, the second keeps the vehicle able to brake. The mounted reservoir with MAX/MIN markings holds the brake fluid; the level warning switch (2-pin connector) signals a fluid shortage to the warning light.

Installation location: in the engine bay on the bulkhead, bolted directly to the brake booster (2-hole flange), with two side line connections.

How can you tell that a master cylinder is faulty?

  • Brake pedal can be depressed far or feels soft/spongy
  • Fluid loss at the cylinder or an unusually dropping level in the reservoir
  • Brake fluid level warning light comes on (level warning switch signals a shortage)
  • Reduced braking effect if one of the two brake circuits fails

Part numbers: The part number is 24.2120-0505.3 (ATE / Alfred Teves, 24.2120 series), piston diameter 20.64 mm (13/16 inch). Not to be confused with the bore groups 24.2119 (19.05 mm), 24.2122 (22.2 mm) and 24.2123 (23.81 mm), or other numbers in the 24.2120 series.

⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying

The number has been discontinued for decades and is no longer listed in current catalogs – catalog fitment can no longer be verified. On the box and label, the part carries old dealer stock notes "Mazda" and "RX7 ab. 80" (Mazda RX-7 SA22C/FB from model year 1980). We pass these notes along as a reference, not as a guarantee of compatibility. Before buying, please be sure to compare the part number and dimensions (piston Ø 20.64 mm, 2-hole flange, port layout) with your old part.

Does not fit:

  • ATE numbers of other bore groups (24.2119 = 19.05 mm, 24.2122 = 22.2 mm, 24.2123 = 23.81 mm, etc.)

FAQ

What's included in the scope of delivery?

The scope of delivery is shown in the product photos.

Is suitability for the Mazda RX-7 confirmed by a current catalog?

No. The notes "Mazda" and "RX7 ab. 80" come from an old dealer stock note on the box and label and are passed along as a reference, not as a guarantee of compatibility. Before buying, please compare the part number and dimensions (piston Ø 20.64 mm, 2-hole flange, port layout) with your old part.

Can I install the cylinder right away?

The part is new old stock (NOS). After long storage, it should be professionally inspected before installation, filled with fresh brake fluid, and the system bled.
