NOS – original box with inspection/customs sticker · Piston Ø 22.2 mm factory-documented · Cylinder without corrosion
Condition of this part

Cylinder without corrosion, coating even, flange and thread clean, cable and connector intact. Plastic reservoir minimally hazy from age. Box slightly damaged at one corner, label fully legible. After long storage, this safety-relevant component should be professionally inspected before installation, filled with fresh brake fluid, and the brake system bled – installation by qualified personnel only.
Function and location
The master cylinder converts the pedal force amplified by the brake booster into hydraulic pressure. As a tandem cylinder, it serves two separate brake circuits – if one circuit fails, the second remains functional. The float switch in the reservoir signals a fluid shortage to the warning light.
Installation location: in the engine bay on the bulkhead, bolted directly to the brake booster.
How can you tell that a master cylinder is faulty?
- Brake pedal can be pressed further down or becomes spongy
- Brake fluid warning light comes on because the float switch signals a shortage
- Decreasing or uneven braking performance if one circuit fails
- Visible fluid loss at the cylinder
This cylinder carries the number 24.2122-0501.3. At ATE, the bore code 2122 stands for a piston diameter of 22.2 mm; for comparison within the ATE system: 24.2119 = 19.05 mm, 24.2120 = 20.64 mm, 24.2123 = 23.81 mm.
⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying
The number 24.2122-0501.3 has been discontinued for decades and is no longer listed in current ATE/TecDoc catalogs, so vehicle fitment can no longer be verified. Manufacture in Japan suggests use in a Japanese vehicle from the early 1980s. Before buying, please be sure to compare the part number and technical features (piston Ø 22.2 mm, design, flange layout, port position, level switch) with your old part.
Does not fit:
- ATE numbers of other bore groups (24.2119 = 19.05 mm, 24.2120 = 20.64 mm, 24.2123 = 23.81 mm, etc.)
- Current 24.2122-15xx/17xx/19xx numbers of the same bore with different geometry
