Condition of this part
New part (NOS – New Old Stock), unused in the original Bosch box. Electrode and centrifugal contact free of any burn marks or arcing, plastic high-gloss, clamping screw untouched. The box shows its age, with slightly crushed edges.
Function and location
The rotor sits on the distributor shaft and directs the high voltage from the centre electrode of the distributor cap to the respective cylinder electrode. This special rotor additionally contains a spring-loaded centrifugal contact: above 6800 rpm, centrifugal force lifts the brass contact and interrupts the ignition circuit – a purely mechanical rev limiter with no electronics. The integrated 1 kOhm suppressor resistor suppresses radio interference. The rotor is not just pushed on but secured via a metal hub with a radial clamping screw.
Installation location: In the distributor under the distributor cap, on the distributor shaft, secured with a radial clamping screw.
How can you tell the distributor rotor is faulty?
- Ignition misfires or loss of power if the electrode or centrifugal contact shows burn marks or arcing
- The engine no longer revs cleanly above 6800 rpm because the centrifugal contact no longer opens correctly
- Rough running due to poor contact at the distributor rotor
