Condition of this part
NOS goods in the original Kolbenschmidt box on a blister card, unused, without corrosion or running marks. The protective film is slightly wavy in one spot, the box shows signs of storage.
Function and location
The main bearing shells form the plain bearing support of the crankshaft in the engine block. They sit between the crankshaft journal and the bearing saddle or bearing cap and carry the forces via an oil film. The grooved shells with an oil hole pass engine oil on to the connecting rod bearings.
The shells are fitted in the five main bearing saddles of the cylinder block and the corresponding bearing caps.
How can you tell worn main bearings?
- Knocking or rumbling noise from the crankcase, especially under load changes
- Falling oil pressure or the oil pressure warning light coming on
- Metal particles in the engine oil or on the oil filter
- Increasing bearing clearance and consequently rising oil consumption

The set is designed for the four-cylinder engines of the EA827/EA113 series from 1.6 to 2.0 litres displacement, as fitted among others in the following models:

Please check your vehicle's engine code, as not every engine variant of these models belongs to the four-cylinder EA827/EA113 series.
Part numbers: Main item Kolbenschmidt/KS 87581600 (standard size STD), catalogue number Glyco H 027/5. For crankshafts already reground (0.25 mm undersize), the different number 87581610 applies. Thrust washers or thrust bearings are not included and are available separately under KS 78635600.

Standard size – only for unground crankshafts. If the crankshaft has already been reground, the undersize version 87581610 (0.25 mm) is needed; please check the journal size before buying. The set applies exclusively to the four-cylinder engines of the EA827/EA113 series from 1.6 to 2.0 litres.

- Audi five-cylinder engines (2.2 and 2.3 litres)
- VR6 and 1.9 TDI engines
- Connecting rod bearings – this set contains main bearings only
