Condition of this part
New old stock (NOS), unused in the original packaging. Thermostat clean, brass capsule bright, no corrosion, no limescale – never installed. The box shows storage marks: label slightly yellowed, edges and corners knocked. Sold untested, as no test bench is available.
Function and location
Regulates coolant flow in the engine circuit. Up to 87 °C, the wax element keeps the path to the radiator closed, and coolant circulates only in the small circuit so the engine reaches operating temperature quickly. From 87 °C, the wax capsule opens the main valve plate to the radiator and closes the bypass circuit via the lower bypass plate.
Installation location: As an insert without its own housing, in the coolant flange or the thermostat housing on the engine block, below the lower radiator hose connection. The included O-ring seals the insert against the cover.
How can you tell if the thermostat is defective?
- Engine reaches operating temperature only slowly or not at all (thermostat stuck open)
- Interior heating stays cold or only becomes lukewarm
- Engine tends to overheat while the radiator stays cold (thermostat stuck closed)
- Coolant noticeably no longer circulates between the small and large circuit

Does this thermostat also fit 1.8T or TDI engines?
No. For 1.8T engines, number 06B 121 113 applies; TDI, SDI and VR6 engines as well as the EA113 series (2.0 8V/16V) need different thermostats. Please compare the opening temperature and OE number before purchasing.
