Tested: the shaft turns freely, the advance mechanism moves freely. This is a used part with age-appropriate signs of use. The distributor cap is not included in the scope of delivery and must be sourced separately.
Function and location
The ignition distributor distributes the ignition coil's high voltage to the four spark plugs in firing order and triggers the ignition spark via the Hall sensor. Centrifugal and vacuum advance adjust the ignition timing to engine speed and load: the vacuum capsule advances the ignition timing under partial load, thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The distributor is installed on the side of the engine, bolted on and positively driven via the helical-toothed pinion of the drive shaft. The vacuum capsule is connected to the intake manifold via a hose.
How can you tell a defective ignition distributor?
- Engine runs roughly or misfires sporadically because the ignition spark is not triggered cleanly
- Engine starts poorly or with a delay
- Higher fuel consumption and worse emissions, because the vacuum capsule no longer advances the ignition timing under partial load
- Noticeable loss of power, as the centrifugal and vacuum advance no longer adjust the ignition timing to engine speed and load

Part numbers: This distributor carries the Bosch number 0 237 005 010 (type code JGFUD 4, single vacuum capsule). Please note the final digits: 0 237 005 003 and 0 237 005 009 look identical on the outside but have a different advance characteristic, and 0 237 005 004 is the Alfa Romeo version. The separately sourced distributor cap fits in the versions Bosch 1 235 522 213 or BMW 12 11 1 706 122.

This distributor has the type code JGFUD 4 with a single vacuum capsule (one connection port). Versions with a dual capsule for advance and retard are a different variant and do not fit. Please compare the number of your old distributor 1:1.
