Function and location

The reflector is the optical heart of the headlight: a high-gloss chromed parabolic bowl that focuses the light of the H4 dual-filament bulb and projects it forward as low or high beam. Dulled or hazy reflectors are the most common cause of weak light on classics and cannot be polished – only replaced. The lens continues to be used.

The reflector is installed at the front right in the rectangular Bosch headlight housing behind the lens; a black rubber dust cap seals the bulb opening towards the engine bay.

How can you tell a reflector is defective?

Weak or hazy low or high beam despite an intact bulb
Visibly dulled, blotchy or hazy chrome plating on the parabolic bowl
Noticeably lower light output compared with the left side of the vehicle

The left side carries the number 1 305 320 836 and is not interchangeable with this right-side version. The W123 uses different reflectors, including Bosch 1 305 320 828.
