Condition of this part
New old stock (NOS) in the original Bosch box, manufactured before 1993. The chrome surface is glossy and free of corrosion, with only minimal storage and dust marks. The three yellow plastic adjuster mounts are undamaged, the rubber dust cap is present and intact, though slightly creased. The original box is aged and yellowed and carries a dealer note on the old tape.
Function and location
The reflector is the light-shaping heart of the headlight: the H4 dual-filament bulb sits centrally in the socket, and the asymmetrically designed rectangular mirror creates the cut-off line that rises to the right for right-hand traffic. The insert is aligned in the housing via the three ball-joint mounts, and the rubber dust cap seals it at the back. Dulled or hazy reflectors are the most common cause of dim light and a common failure point at the German MOT (HU) – the existing lens continues to be used.
The reflector sits in the wide-band main headlight housing at the front left, behind the lens, and clicks onto the ball sockets of the adjustment mechanism.
How can you tell a reflector is defective?
- Low and high beam appear noticeably too dim or hazy despite a flawless lens.
- The reflector surface appears hazy or dulled rather than mirror-like when viewed through the lens.
- The cut-off line of the low beam is blurred or barely visible.
- The vehicle fails the German MOT (HU) due to insufficient light output.
