Condition of this part
New part (NOS – New Old Stock), unused in the original yellow Bosch spare parts box with a "1 piece" label. The pulley is fully blackened, with no bright spots or belt wear marks in the ribs and no rust; the bore and hub cup show no installation marks. The box is age-yellowed and knocked at the edges, and there is a remnant of a peeled-off sticker on the hub.
Function and location
The pulley sits on the alternator's rotor shaft and transmits the drive force from the poly-V belt to the alternator. The six-rib profile is matched to a 6-rib poly-V belt; the diameter ratio to the crankshaft pulley determines the alternator speed and therefore the charging output. Two square lugs on the hub face are for the counter-holding tool used when loosening and tightening the shaft nut.
The pulley is installed at the front, on the alternator shaft, clamped against the fan or spacer ring with a centre nut, in the belt drive at the front of the engine.
How can you tell the pulley is faulty?
- The poly-V belt slips and/or squeals
- The pulley is worn in, has excess play or is rusted
- Visible wear marks or rust in the ribs instead of a smooth, blackened surface
