Condition of this part

New old stock (NOS – New Old Stock), unused in the original Bosch box. The contacts inside are bare, without burn marks or tracking marks, the carbon brush is unused and springs back, the thermoset plastic shows no hairline cracks. The box shows age-related yellowing and storage marks; the cap itself is in perfect condition.

Function and location

The distributor cap sits as a lid on the ignition distributor and directs the high-voltage pulse, which the rotor picks up from the center electrode, to the four spark plug cables in the correct firing order. The highly insulating thermoset plastic separates the high-voltage paths from each other and from ground. Hairline cracks, tracking marks or burnt contacts lead to ignition misfires, starting problems and jerking under load.

The cap is fitted on top of the ignition distributor at the engine block or cylinder head, secured with two side spring clips. The rotor sits underneath.
