Condition of this part
New part (NOS – New Old Stock), unused in the original BREMI box with a label and Deutschmark price field – i.e. old stock from before 2002. The thermoset rotor body is high-gloss and free of scratches, the brass contact tab bright and free of burn marks, the carbon and resistor element untouched, and the screws bright zinc-plated with no tool marks.
Function and location
The distributor rotor sits on the distributor shaft and directs the high-voltage pulse from the ignition coil, via the centre contact in the tower and the moulded-in resistor track, to the brass tab at the outer edge and from there to the respective next cylinder contact in the distributor cap. The built-in suppressor resistor suppresses the spark for radio and electronics compatibility. The deep cup covers the centrifugal advance mechanism in the distributor; the two screws bolt the rotor to the centrifugal weight or cam carrier instead of just pushing it on.
Installation location: in the distributor directly under the distributor cap, on the distributor shaft above the centrifugal advance mechanism – accessible after removing the cap.
How can you tell the ignition distributor rotor is faulty?
- The engine fires irregularly or not at all on one or more cylinders, because the high-voltage pulse no longer reliably reaches the respective cylinder contact in the distributor cap
- Rough idle and noticeable loss of power due to contact resistance at the resistor track or the contact tab
- Starting difficulties due to a weak or intermittent ignition spark
- Interference noise in the car radio or the on-board electronics if the built-in suppressor resistor is damaged
