Condition of this part
New part from old stock (NOS) in the original red Elring box, Made in Germany, printed 20/3/14. The box shows clear signs of storage: label yellowed and soiled, corners and edges knocked, one adhesive flap partly detached. The contents are unused and as-new: FPM sealing rings without cracks, hardening or deformation, steel cages and bands bright, only slight storage dust; installation sleeves undamaged. Sold untested.
Function and location
Valve stem seals sit as small collars on top of the valve guides and wipe the engine oil off the valve stem before it reaches the combustion chamber or exhaust port. If they have become hard or cracked, the engine draws in oil. The FPM material is more heat- and aging-resistant than the original material; the included plastic sleeves protect the sealing lips when sliding them over the sharp-edged valve keyway grooves.
Installation location: in the cylinder head, directly on the 8 valve guides under the valve springs. Access after removing the valve cover and the camshaft or valve springs.
