Glyco main bearing 72-0277 – crankshaft bearing pair (2 half-shells) in repair stage 1.00 mm undersize, sold by part number and size, since no vehicle application is documented anymore for this number.
New part (NOS) from old stock · Unused running surfaces with no signs of running · Repair stage 1.00 mm undersize
Condition of this part
New part from old stock (NOS) in the original printed cardboard wrap sleeve. The sleeve is yellowed to a cream color, with a slight brown stain, crushed edges and an unfolded clasp seam at the top – purely signs of storage on the packaging. Both bearing shells themselves are unused: running surfaces with a fine machining finish, no signs of running, no scoring pattern, no wear edge, locating lugs undamaged. The steel backs and end edges show a matte gray storage patina with occasional olive-green preservation haze. A round factory stamp is discernible but not legible; no date code can be found. The bearing is sold untested.
Function and location
Main bearing shells are the plain bearings in which the crankshaft runs in the engine block. They carry the combustion pressure and inertial forces and, via the oil groove and oil bore, build up the load-bearing lubricating film that separates shaft and block. Undersize shells like these are thicker than standard shells and belong to a crankshaft that was ground down by 1.00 mm in diameter during engine reconditioning.
The shells are fitted in the crankcase between the crankshaft main bearing journal and the bearing saddle or bearing cap – the upper half-shell in the block, the lower one in the bearing cap, each secured against rotation by the locating lug. Installation is only possible with the engine disassembled and should be left to qualified personnel.
Part number Glyco 72-0277, repair stage 1.00 mm undersize. The bearing pair comes from a find of three adjacent Glyco numbers in the same repair stage – 72-0277, 72-0278 and 72-0279 – which probably belong to the same engine. Glyco marks a flanged or thrust bearing with the suffix H after the number; this is absent on 72-0277. Glyco lists the associated thrust bearing separately under the number 72-0279.
⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying
No vehicle or engine application is documented anymore for this Glyco number – the part is therefore explicitly sold by manufacturer, part number and size stage, not by vehicle. Please be sure to compare the number and dimensions with your old part before buying.
Does not fit:
- Standard-size crankshafts and the repair stages 0.25, 0.50 and 0.75 mm
- Applications that require a flanged or thrust bearing (Glyco designation H after the number)
