Glyco main bearing 72-0278 – crankshaft bearing pair (2 shells) in repair stage 1.00 mm undersize.
NOS – new part from old stock · Running surfaces as-new, no scoring or wear pattern · Repair stage 1.00 mm undersize
Condition of this part
New part from old stock (NOS) in the original white paper sleeve. The paper is yellowed and stained, the edges crushed and torn, but the print is fully legible. The running surfaces themselves are as-new: no scoring, no wear pattern, no signs of installation or running, the locating lugs undamaged. The steel backs show the typical dark preservation shading and slight storage patina – purely surface discoloration from the preservative, no rust and no corrosion pitting. No date codes are discernible. The part is sold untested.
Function and location
Main bearing shells are the plain bearings in which the crankshaft runs in the engine block. They carry the combustion pressure and inertial forces and, via the oil groove and oil bore, build up the load-bearing lubricating film that separates shaft and block. Undersize shells like these are thicker than standard shells and belong to a crankshaft that was ground down by 1.00 mm in diameter during engine reconditioning.
They are fitted in the crankcase between the crankshaft main bearing journal and the bearing saddle or bearing cap – the upper half-shell in the block, the lower one in the bearing cap, each secured against rotation by the locating lug. Installation is only carried out with the engine disassembled.
No vehicle or engine application is publicly documented today for this discontinued Glyco number 72-0278. The part is therefore explicitly sold by manufacturer, part number and size stage – not by vehicle. Stamping on the bearing: 1.00 UST for the repair stage 1.00 mm undersize. The adjacent numbers Glyco 72-0277 and 72-0279 come from the same find of stock.
⚠ Important: compare part number and size stage before buying
These shells fit exclusively a crankshaft already ground down by 1.00 mm in diameter. Please compare the part number and size with your old part before you buy.
The paper sleeve carries no brand print; the attribution to Glyco is based on the round manufacturer logo on the steel back and on the numbering system. The three bearing pairs 72-0277, 72-0278 and 72-0279 come from the same find of stock, all in repair stage 1.00 mm, and probably belong to the same engine.
Does not fit:
- Standard size and the repair stages 0.25 mm, 0.50 mm and 0.75 mm
- Sale as a complete bearing set – this listing is a single bearing pair (2 half-shells)
