Neoprene impeller with spline drive (part number 920-0001) for Jabsco and Johnson raw water pumps, among others on engines from Yanmar and Volvo Penta.
NOS – unused · 8 neoprene vanes with brass spline hub · Spline drive
Condition of this part
New old stock (NOS), unused. The neoprene is glossy, the vanes hold their shape, no cracks visible, the brass hub insert is bright. The original box dates from the ITT Jabsco era and is aged accordingly: yellowed, torn at the edges and secured all around with tape, the print partly faded. The neoprene itself shows age from storage. As no test bench is available, the part is sold untested.
Function and location
The impeller is the flexible vane rotor inside a self-priming positive-displacement pump. As it turns, the neoprene vanes are compressed and released against an eccentric cam track in the pump housing, pumping the cooling or raw water. A cracked impeller causes cooling water failure and thus immediate engine overheating.
The impeller sits in the pump housing of the belt- or engine-driven raw water and coolant pump, behind the front cover with gasket, on the spline of the pump shaft. Version with 8 vanes, outer diameter 65 mm, width 51 mm and shaft diameter 16 mm, hub with brass insert, operating temperature 7 to 82 °C.
How can you tell if the impeller is defective?
- Cooling water flow at the outlet side decreases or stops altogether
- Engine temperature rises unusually fast, overheating warning
- Rubber debris or broken-off vane pieces in the cooling water circuit
