Function and location
The plain bearing shells form the hydrodynamic oil film between the crankshaft crank pin and the connecting rod big end, absorb the piston's gas and inertia forces, and set the bearing clearance. Connecting rod bearings are always renewed as a complete set.
They are installed in the lower connecting rod eye, one shell each in the connecting rod and the rod bearing cap, with the locating tab sitting in the designated recess.
