New old stock (NOS), unused in the original Kolbenschmidt packaging with wax-paper wrap. The outer box shows storage marks; the rings themselves have never been fitted.
Function and location
Piston rings seal the combustion chamber against the crankcase, transfer piston heat to the cylinder wall, and regulate the oil film on the bore surface. The two upper compression rings hold the combustion pressure, while the lower oil control ring limits oil consumption. This set is enough for one cylinder.
The rings are fitted into the ring grooves of the piston skirt inside the engine block's cylinder; installation is carried out with the engine disassembled.

The 79,76 mm bore family (1st oversize) belongs to the VAG EA827 engine block. It runs as the 1.9 D, 1.9 TD and 1.9 TDI diesel with the engine codes 1Y, 1X, AAZ and AFN, as well as the 1.5 and 1.6 petrol, in the following models:
- Golf 1
- Jetta 1
- Scirocco 1
- Caddy 14D
This requires the cylinder block to already have been bored and honed to the 1st repair stage – this set does not fit a block at nominal size.

This is an oversize set, not standard size. It only fits cylinders that have already been bored to 79,76 mm – please measure your block's bore before buying. The ring thicknesses are also decisive; please compare them with the product photos.

- Blocks at the nominal size of 79,51 mm, as well as the 80,01 mm and 80,51 mm stages
- VAG engines with a 76,5 mm bore (1.6 D, 1.5 and 2.0), with 81,01 mm (1.8), and with 82,5 mm (2.0)
- Mercedes engines M115 (87,0 mm) and M102 (89,0 mm)
- complete engine sets – this set is enough for one of four cylinders
