Function and location
The oil pump draws engine oil from the oil pan and feeds it under pressure into the lubrication circuit to the crankshaft, camshaft and injection pump. An integrated pressure relief valve keeps the oil pressure within the permitted range. Falling oil pressure when warm is a classic sign of a worn pump.
The pump sits at the bottom of the crankcase inside the oil pan and is driven by the intermediate shaft.
