Function and location

Pistons transfer the combustion energy to the connecting rods and crankshaft. The installation location is the cylinder block or crank assembly. This set is designed as a complete fitment for all eight cylinders and is therefore tailored to a full engine overhaul.

Condition and scope of delivery

New Old Stock (NOS): 8 original MAHLE pistons from old stock, never fitted and as-new, in original MAHLE packaging (4 boxes of 2 each), original MAHLE series production from the period (Made in Germany, MAHLE GmbH Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt) – not a reproduction. The boxes show age- and storage-related wear, new circlips may be needed. All 8 pistons carry the uniform size group 107,51 mm.

Scope of delivery: 8 pistons with fitted piston rings (chrome ring set), piston pins and circlips (BS 26/5, C 26 × 1,6). See product photos for further scope of delivery.

How can you tell pistons are worn?

Pistons and piston rings convert combustion pressure into motion and transmit it via the connecting rods and crankshaft. If this sealing weakens, some of the pressure escapes past the piston instead of doing work – noticeable as falling compression and reduced power, often accompanied by rising oil consumption and blow-by. If the engine is being disassembled anyway and the cylinder bore is being taken to the first oversize, a complete set of new pistons in a uniform size group is the clean solution.

Part numbers

MAHLE 003 17 01 – piston Ø 107,51 mm for the 1st repair stage (bore 107,5 mm). For the standard bore 107,0 mm, MAHLE 003 17 00 (Ø 107,01 mm) is intended instead. To install this set, the cylinder bore must be bored and honed to the 1st oversize of 107,5 mm.
