Vehicle system and function
With its built-in acceleration sensor, the control unit measures vehicle deceleration and, in an impact, fires the driver and passenger airbags as well as the seat belt tensioners. It monitors the restraint system continuously and controls the SRS warning light in the instrument cluster.
Installation location: Bolted onto the transmission tunnel under the center console, on the R129 in front of the selector lever. The arrow on the housing marks the installation orientation.
Condition: Used genuine part, housing and connector strip undamaged.
How to recognize a defective part

Important distinction – please check before buying
⚠ Not A 004 820 17 10 (Bosch 0 285 001 030)
That is the unit for vehicles with driver airbag only. The two units are not interchangeable.
⚠ Not for model year 1994/95
W124 and R129 from model year 1994 have newer control units (e.g. A 000 820 71 26 / 72 26).
⚠ Other engine variants
The control unit depends on the airbag equipment, not on the engine. For models not listed here, please compare the number on your own unit.
⚠ Do not mix Bosch and Temic
According to Mercedes, control units and sensors from Bosch and Temic must not be combined.
⚠ Does not fit:
- 190 series W201 (no passenger airbag)
- W140 S-Class (A 000 820 70 26 or A 001 820 19 26)
- W202, W210, R170 and W208 (Temic control units)
