New part, originally packaged (NOS). The sealed Mercedes bag carries the factory label, the label itself is torn. The packaging is age-yellowed, the seal ring is unused.
Function and location
The radial shaft seal seals the inner wheel hub bearing. The spring-loaded sealing lip holds the bearing grease in the hub cavity, a leading dust lip keeps out water, salt and dirt, and the helix actively pumps any escaping grease back into the bearing. The stepped metal ring is pressed into the hub bore – hence the two different outer diameter and width dimensions.
Installation location: on the inside of the wheel hub, behind the inner tapered roller bearing, between the hub and the steering knuckle. According to the factory parts catalog, the seal ring is used on both the front axle and the rear axle.
