Condition of this part
New old stock (NOS) from the 1950s/60s. Only the glassine bag with the two flange gaskets is offered – without the original box and without the remaining parts of the complete gasket set. The packaging is age-yellowed, the gaskets themselves are unused.
Function and location
The two flange gaskets seal the mating joints of the coolant water pump – between the pump housing, bearing housing and crankcase. They are the parts of the gasket set that always have to be renewed during a water pump overhaul, because the old paper and fiber gaskets are destroyed when disassembled.
The belt-driven water pump is installed at the front of the engine, behind the pulley and fan.
How can you tell if the flange gaskets on the water pump are leaking?
- Coolant leaks at the front of the engine in the area of the water pump
- The coolant level drops, requiring more frequent topping up
- Damp coolant traces or lime deposits on the pump or bearing housing
