Function and location
This complete gasket and repair kit seals the coolant water pump. In one job, it replaces the flange gaskets between the pump housing, bearing housing and crankcase as well as the shaft seal of the pump shaft – the wear-part counterpart to a mechanically overhauled pump: anyone who disassembles the water pump needs this kit to make it seal again. According to the factory parts catalog, it belongs to the main group engine cooling.
The kit is installed at the front of the engine on the belt-driven water pump, behind the pulley and fan.
How can you tell if the water pump is leaking?
- Coolant leaking at the sealing surfaces between the pump, bearing and crankcase
- Moisture or coolant traces at the shaft exit of the pump
- Falling coolant level or coolant loss with no other identifiable cause
