Condition of this part
New part (NOS – New Old Stock), unused in the original Mercedes-Benz parts box with matching parts label and MB hologram security seal. Housing free of installation or assembly marks, mounting tabs undamaged, flat pins clean and gold-shiny with no oxidation, no burn marks, no cable imprints, terminal 30 threaded stud bright with no cable-lug marks. The box is dusty on the outside and yellowed from storage, the edges are slightly crushed and the seal is separated at the box edge – the control unit itself is unused.
Function and location
The glow time control unit controls a diesel engine's preheating system: when the ignition is switched on, it turns on the glow plugs with the full battery current, holds the glow phase for a period dependent on temperature or time, activates the preheat warning light in the instrument cluster, and disconnects the glow plugs again after starting. The heavy brass threaded stud (terminal 30) carries the glow current, while the flat pins handle ignition-on (15), starter signal (50) and earth (31).
It is installed in the engine bay on the relay carrier, or on the bulkhead or inner wheel-arch wall near the battery, bolted in place with its two moulded-in tabs. The thick supply cable connects to the threaded stud, and the collector cable continues to the glow plug rail on the cylinder head.
How can you tell the glow time control unit is faulty?
- The cold engine starts poorly or not at all
- The engine runs roughly after a cold start
- The preheat warning light in the instrument cluster does not behave as expected
- The glow plugs are not switched off cleanly after starting

This control unit is designed exclusively for 12 volt systems – 24 volt versions for commercial vehicles (e.g. EvoBus) cannot be used. For the V-Class W638/2 (V 230 TD) and Vito Mixto, the number is not unambiguously confirmed; please check the OE number in advance. Also compare number 008 545 00 32 with your own control unit.

No. Number A 007 545 99 32 applies to the G-Class W460/W461 (250 GD, 290 GD), number A 017 545 85 32 to the V-Class W638 230, and number A 022 545 75 32 to the six-cylinder diesels (e.g. W210 E 300 D) – these are all different components.
