New old stock (NOS), unused and never installed. The original Mercedes packaging with factory label is present, the bag age-yellowed.
Function and location
Flat intermediate plate made of heat-insulating material between the carburetor and intake manifold. It thermally decouples the carburetor from the hot intake tract so the fuel in the float bowl does not overheat – this prevents vapor lock, hot-start problems and idle dropouts after switching off, the typical complaints in summer temperatures. At the same time, the flange seals the joint and dampens vibrations.
The flange sits directly under the carburetor base and is bolted on via the intake manifold studs. Flange gaskets are usually included on both sides.
How can you tell if the insulating flange is defective or missing?
- Starting problems right after switching off with a warm engine (hot start)
- Idle dropouts or rough idle after short standing times
- Increased vapor lock in the float bowl at high outside temperatures
- Leakage or fuel odor at the joint between carburetor and intake manifold
- Noticeable vibrations at the carburetor because the damping is missing
