Function and location
This fuel system pressure regulator is part of the Bosch KE-Jetronic injection system. It keeps the system pressure of approx. 5.3 bar constant and provides sufficient residual holding pressure after switching off – this prevents hot-start problems and vapor lock. This version is intended for the 8-valve four-cylinder engines (M102) and 12-valve six-cylinder engines (M103).
The pressure regulator sits in the engine bay on the fuel distributor or in the KE-Jetronic return line and is bolted in there.
How can you tell a fuel pressure regulator is defective?
- Starting problems with a hot engine (hot-start problems)
- Vapor lock in the fuel system
- Fluctuating or dropping system pressure
- Rough idle due to lack of residual holding pressure
