Condition of this part

Genuine Mercedes-Benz part from stock in the original bag, made in Germany. The part is unused, shows no running marks and no rust on the bare metal. The bag itself is yellowed and stained with age.

Function and location

The bearing cap closes off a crankshaft main bearing point from below. Together with the cylinder block, it forms the round main bore in which the two bearing shell halves sit and the crankshaft journal runs. It absorbs the entire combustion and inertial load and is clamped with two torque-to-yield bolts (55 Nm plus 90 degrees).

It is installed on the underside of the cylinder block in the main bearing saddle area, below the crankshaft in the oil pan bay.

Part numbers

The part number of this bearing cap is A1020110411. Not to be confused with: for the M102 engine, despite the similar number prefix, the numbers A 102 011 01 11 or A 102 011 06 11 apply; for the thrust bearing position of every model series, A 102 011 06 13 or A 102 011 08 13; and for OM601 engines before engine number 601.911 …028240, the number A 103 011 04 11.

⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying

Bearing caps are line-bored together with the engine block at the factory. They are therefore not freely interchangeable without further work, even though Mercedes lists the cap as an individual spare part. After fitting a different cap, the main bore must be checked and the bearing saddle line-bored and honed if necessary. Measurement is taken with the cap torqued to final spec; the bearing shell is then selected for 0,035 to 0,045 mm clearance. Oversize bearing shells in outside diameter do not exist. This part is intended for engine rebuilders and specialist personnel.

Does not fit:

  • M102 engine – despite the number prefix 102, this cap is not intended for the M102; there, A 102 011 01 11 or A 102 011 06 11 applies
  • the thrust bearing position of every model series – there A 102 011 06 13 or A 102 011 08 13
  • camshaft bearing caps – a different assembly
  • OM601 before engine number 601.911 …028240 – there A 103 011 04 11
  • installation without checking and, if necessary, reworking the bearing saddle

FAQ

Is the bearing cap new or used?

It is an unused genuine Mercedes-Benz part (NOS) from stock in the original bag, made in Germany. It shows no running marks and no rust on the bare metal; the bag itself is yellowed and stained with age.

Can I install the bearing cap without further work?

No. Bearing caps are line-bored together with the engine block at the factory and are not freely interchangeable without further work. After fitting, the main bore must be checked and the bearing saddle line-bored and honed if necessary; the bearing shell is then selected to match the measured clearance. This part is intended for engine rebuilders and specialist personnel.

Does the cap also fit the M102 engine?

No. Despite the similar number prefix 102, this cap is not intended for the M102. There, part numbers A 102 011 01 11 and A 102 011 06 11 apply.
