Condition of this part
Used genuine part, tested by us and functional. The housing shows fine usage scratches, all plug pins are complete and straight, the contacts slightly tarnished – with no heat or moisture damage. You will receive an item in comparable condition to the one pictured.
Function and location
The control unit monitors the circuits of the exterior lighting – parking, low beam, brake, tail and number plate lights – comparing the left and right circuits in each case. If a bulb fails, the yellow bulb failure warning light comes on in the instrument cluster; the unit also runs a self-test when the ignition is switched on.
It is installed as a plug-in module in the relay/control unit box in the engine bay, behind the fuse box, connected via three connector blocks.
How can you tell a lamp failure control unit is defective?
- The bulb failure warning light stays on permanently even though all bulbs are intact
- The warning light flickers when braking
- The self-test when the ignition is switched on doesn't run at all

Does the unit also fit the W201, R107 or C107?
No. The W201 (190 series) has no lamp failure control unit from the factory, and the R107/C107 use a different housing with its own part number (107 542 01 32).
