Condition of this part
New part (NOS – New Old Stock), unused in the original febi-bilstein box with matching article number and EAN. The pulley is rust-free, the bearing seal is intact and the plastic edges are sharp; no belt wear groove is visible – the fine longitudinal lines on the running surface are manufacturing marks. The box shows shelf-storage marks.
Function and location
The pulley runs on the smooth back of the poly-V belt and sits on the automatic belt tensioner: it keeps the belt permanently under tension and guides it around the ancillary units. The glass-fibre-reinforced plastic body (PA6-GF50) runs on a sealed, permanently greased type 6203 deep-groove ball bearing.
The pulley is installed at the front of the engine in the poly-V belt drive, on the spring-loaded tensioner arm or as an idler next to the alternator and A/C compressor. It is fastened with a centre bolt through the 17 mm bore.
How can you tell the tensioner pulley is faulty?
- Grinding, squealing or rattling noises from the belt drive
- Bearing play or stiffness in the pulley due to bearing wear
- In extreme cases, the poly-V belt tears
- As a result, the alternator, power steering pump and water pump fail
