Used and function-tested, the detent is felt cleanly. Signs of use and slight corrosion on the metal strap are present.
Function and location
The door check strap limits the door's opening angle and holds it open at defined detent positions, so it neither hits the fender nor swings shut on a slope or in the wind. Inside the plastic housing, spring-loaded rollers press against the contoured metal tongue – the undulations in the strap create the noticeable detents. Worn-out straps are the typical cause of creaking, rattling or doors that no longer hold their position.
Bolted into the body of the rear door, the strap is linked via its rolled eyelet over a pin on the B-pillar bracket.

This door check strap carries the part number A2027300216 with the stamped size 107 mm and is intended for the rear door. The longer strap for the front door carries the number A2027200216 or A2107200116. For W123, W124, W126, W201 and R129, the shorter 100 mm strap with the numbers A1267200016 or A1267200516 is fitted.

The stamped size 107 mm must be compared with the old part. Similar door check straps exist with different sizes – straps with 100 mm or other sizes are not directly interchangeable. Please compare the size of the old part carefully.

- W123, W124, W126, W201 and R129 – there the 100 mm strap A1267200016 or A1267200516 is fitted
