Function and location
The instrument cluster displays speed as well as total and trip mileage; it is driven mechanically via the speedometer cable from the transmission output. The same housing also holds the combination gauge for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure, as well as the analog clock. The displays are backlit and can be adjusted via the instrument dimmer.
Installation location: In the dashboard directly in front of the driver, inserted from the front into the instrument carrier. Connected via the speedometer cable at the transmission output and the plug contacts on the back.

What matters is the speedometer ratio, which depends on the rear axle ratio and tires, not on engine size – the factory sticker showing the speedometer ratio is no longer legible on this unit. In addition, several versions with different end numbers were fitted for this engine: this instrument carries the number 123 542 34 01, version 123 542 09 57 is not directly interchangeable. The scale must also match 200 km/h.
