Function and location

The instrument cluster displays the speed as well as the total and trip odometer reading; it is driven mechanically via the speedometer cable from the transmission output. The same housing also holds the combined gauge for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure, as well as the analogue clock. The displays are backlit and adjustable via the instrument dimmer. The speedometer's scale end value is 220 km/h, the oil pressure gauge is scaled in bar; this version additionally features a consumption display (Economy) in the left round gauge.

The instrument cluster sits in the dashboard directly in front of the driver and is inserted from the front into the instrument carrier. It is connected via the speedometer cable at the transmission output as well as the plug contacts on the back.

The speedometer ratio depends on the rear axle ratio and tire size, not on engine size – a speedometer with a different value will permanently read incorrectly despite having the same scale.
