Vehicle system and function
The operating unit regulates the interior temperature automatically to the value set on the selector dial (MIN, 18 to 26 °C, MAX). The built-in electronics evaluate the interior, outside, evaporator and coolant sensors and control the mono valve, auxiliary water pump, blower, compressor and air flaps; the buttons switch Defrost, air distribution, EC and Off.
Installation location: In the center console. To remove it, the ashtray, radio and console trim are taken out and the two large connectors are unplugged.
Condition: Used genuine part, number stamped into the housing. Button symbols and scale legible, blue scale strip slightly rubbed off, back dirty with yellow paint marks, small plastic residue on the front edge at the bottom right.
How to recognize a defective part
- ● Temperature control cuts out, heating goes uncontrolled to full (solder joints)
- ● A button switches by itself at times
- ● Lighting fails or lights up unevenly

Vehicles with Fahrenheit scale have A 126 830 10 85 or 11 85.
⚠ Model year 1986/87
A 126 830 05 85 was installed there; a swap is not documented – please compare the number.
⚠ Does not fit:
- W126 first series (1979–1985)
- US vehicles with °F scale
- E-Class W124 (A 124 830 … 85)
- SL R129 (A 129 830 05 85)
