Function and location
The trunk lid lock secures the trunk lid via a spring-loaded rotary latch, which in the closed position catches the striker on the body. The lock cylinder above it releases the rotary latch again with the flat key. On vehicles with central locking, a linkage rod additionally connects the vacuum actuator.
The lock is installed centrally in the trunk lid inner panel behind the lock cylinder visible from outside, bolted via the side plastic flange with two screws each on the left and right.
How can you tell a trunk lid lock is defective?
- The trunk lid can no longer be locked, or only with difficulty
- The tailgate springs open unintentionally while driving because the rotary latch no longer holds the striker
- The lock cylinder can no longer be turned, or the key sticks
- On vehicles with central locking, the trunk no longer opens or closes along with it because the connection via the linkage rod is faulty

No part number is legible on this part. Several lock variants are known for the W201 trunk lid: 201 750 04 85, 201 750 07 85, 201 750 12 85, 201 750 13 85, 201 750 16 85, 201 750 22 85, 201 750 23 85 and 201 750 24 85 – they differ in version and connection to the central locking. Please compare design, flange and linkage rod with your old part.
