Function and location
The door lock cylinder is the mechanical locking element of the front door. The flat key turns the cylinder core, which carries along the actuating rod via a driver, moving the locking lever in the door lock.
The cylinder sits in the outer skin of the front door as a separate rectangular trim next to the door handle and is held from the inside, with the door trim removed, by a clip and threaded sleeve.
How can you tell a door lock cylinder is defective?
- The flat key turns only with difficulty or not at all
- The cylinder spins freely without carrying along the actuating rod and thus the locking lever
- The door can no longer be locked or unlocked from outside

Part numbers: For the right door lock cylinder, the parts catalog lists the number 201 760 06 77. The left cylinder is listed as 201 760 05 77, replaced by 201 760 23 77 – experience shows the cylinders are interchangeable between the driver and passenger door; please compare design and marking with the old part.
