NOS – unused in the original box · Single pump with approx. 60 l/h delivery rate · Fits W123, W124, W126, W201 & W140

Condition of this part

New part (NOS – New Old Stock), unused in the original Hella box. The pump body is clean, with no limescale or water marks visible in the ports and no hose marks on the nipples. The brass pins show the light tarnishing typical of storage, and the box is yellowed and opened. The rubber grommet for the washer fluid reservoir is not included in the scope of delivery.

Function and location

This electric plug-in pump (single pump, 12 V, approx. 60 l/h) is designed for the windscreen washer system. It sits in the washer fluid reservoir and, when the wash/wipe switch is operated, delivers washer fluid to the windscreen nozzles. On vehicles with a headlight washer system, the same pump sits a second time in the same reservoir and additionally feeds the headlight nozzles – which is why this part is listed as a spare part in both assemblies. A failed pump is the classic reason why the windscreen washer no longer works on youngtimers.

The pump sits in, or on the wall of, the washer fluid reservoir in the engine bay – on the W124 and W126, at the front right in the wheel arch area. It is inserted with its ribbed collar into the reservoir's rubber grommet, and the pressure port takes the washer fluid hose.

How can you tell the washer pump is faulty?

  • When the wash/wipe switch is operated, little or no water comes out of the windscreen nozzles
  • On vehicles with a headlight washer system, only the headlight washer may fail instead or in addition, since an identical pump sits there
  • The system delivers no fluid despite a full washer fluid reservoir

The pump carries the Hella part number 8TW 005 496-011 (12 V version). This is not to be confused with the identical-looking 24 V variant 8TW 005 496-051 for trucks and buses.

⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying

There is an identical-looking 24 V version of this 12 V pump for trucks and buses, as well as different pump types for later model years – please compare carefully before buying.

Does not fit:

  • NOT the 24 V version 8TW 005 496-051 (truck and bus) – this here is the 12 V pump
  • This is a single pump with one pressure circuit, NOT a dual or reversing pump for front and rear from a single unit
  • The reservoir's rubber grommet/seal is not included in the scope of delivery
  • NOT for Mercedes from approx. 1996/97 onward (W210, W220) – different pumps are fitted there
  • Contacts and ports as pictured – please compare with your own part
