Genuine Mercedes-Benz part from stock in the sealed original bag, supplier CFW (Carl Freudenberg), made in Germany. The seal is unused, the rubber smooth, the garter spring intact. The label shows brown storage stains as well as a logistics sticker dated 26.10.2000.
Function and location
The shaft seal seals the transmission oil at a rotating shaft of Mercedes' own K4A or K4C four-speed automatic transmission against the housing. A circumferential garter spring holds the sealing lip under constant preload on the shaft, so that sealing continues even with shaft wear, thermal expansion and settling of the elastomer.
The installation location is at the transmission input, or at the oil pump of the automatic transmission, behind the torque converter.

The shaft seal carries the Mercedes-Benz part number A0089979146, size 34 × 52 × 8 mm (inside diameter × outside diameter × height), design A or BA. It belongs to Mercedes standard-parts group 997, which includes other, outwardly similar seals in different sizes. For the transmission output shaft of the same gearbox type, the number A 008 997 92 46 applies – not to be confused with the seal offered here.
