Function and location
Complete cast steering lock with lock cylinder, locking pin and round 7-pin ignition starter switch (terminals 30/15/50, P30 for the parking light). When the key is removed, the locking pin locks the steering column.
The lock is installed on the steering column jacket tube under the steering column trim and is secured through the flange holes.
How can you tell that an ignition lock is faulty?
- Ignition starter switch does not reliably switch terminal 15 or 50, engine starts with difficulty or not at all
- Parking light via terminal P30 does not switch as intended
- Steering does not lock when the key is removed or locks unexpectedly
- Key is hard to turn, cylinder does not engage noticeably

W123 series – gasoline (approx. 1976–1986):
- 200, 230, 230 E, 250, 280, 280 E
- also coupe C123 / T-model wagon S123
S-Class W126/C126 (up to approx. 09/1989):
- Sedan W126 (SE/SEL)
- Coupe C126 (SEC)
This lock bears the housing stamp of the 0160 family, as installed in the W123/W126 era. The newer design of the W201/W124 generation, by contrast, can be recognized by the stamp 1900.01 and does not belong to this part.

Design and connector layout are decisive. Several generations of steering locks exist. This part belongs to the W123/W126 era (housing stamp 0160 family). Please compare the design, connector layout and – if present – the part number of your old part 1:1 with the photos.
Does not fit:
- Diesel models (these require the version with two vacuum ports)
- The newer design of the W201/W124 era (stamp 1900.01)
- W126 from approx. 10/1989 (changed lock cylinder)
- W113 Pagoda, early W108/W111, W110 (other lock families)
