Condition of this part
Used and personally tested: the included key turns cleanly through all positions, and the mechanism clicks correctly. See photos for further details.
Function and location
Complete steering lock casting with lock cylinder, locking bolt and round 7-pin ignition starter switch (terminals 30/15/50, P30 for the parking lights). The diesel version also has a vacuum valve with two hose fittings in the housing: one connection comes from the vacuum pump, the second leads to the stop solenoid on the injection pump. When the key is turned back to 0, vacuum is passed through, the control lever moves to zero delivery, and the engine stops.
Installation location: on the steering column tube under the steering column trim, secured via the flange holes.
How can you tell an ignition lock is defective?
- The key is hard or impossible to turn
- Steering remains locked despite the key (locking pin stuck)
- Starter motor doesn't engage, as terminal 50 gets no contact
- Parking light (P30) or other loads on terminal 15 fail
- On the diesel version: the engine can no longer be switched off via the ignition key because the vacuum valve doesn't switch
Compatible vehicles
W123 model series – diesel (approx. 1976–1986):
- 200 D, 220 D, 240 D (OM615/616)
- 300 D, 300 TD (OM617)
- also Coupé C123 / T-model S123 diesel
S-Class W126/C126 (up to approx. 09/1989):
- Sedan W126 (SE/SEL)
- Coupé C126 (SEC)
- later W126 from approx. 10/1989 have a modified lock cylinder
Note: The diesel version can also be used on the petrol version – the vacuum connections then simply remain unused. The reverse (a petrol lock in a diesel) is not possible.
The lock comes with its own keying and therefore does not match the rest of your vehicle's lock system (doors/trunk) unless the cylinder is re-keyed.
Based on the housing stamping, this ignition lock is clearly part of the "0160" family, as fitted in the W123/W126 era.
⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying
Design and connector pattern are decisive: several steering lock generations exist. This part belongs to the W123/W126 era (housing stamping 0160 family). Please compare the design, connector pattern and – if present – the part number of your old part 1:1 with the photos.
Does not fit:
- the newer design of the W201/W124 era (stamping 1900.01)
- W126 from approx. 10/1989 (modified lock cylinder)
- W113 Pagoda, early W108/W111, W110 (other lock families)
