Condition of this part
Used, without key and without vacuum valve – the function was tested during removal with the key that was available at the time (cylinder turned smoothly, mechanism engaged correctly); the key has since been lost. Die-cast zinc with even patina, no cracks, contact pins straight, cap with slight wear.
Function and location
Combined steering and ignition lock: the lock cylinder uses the switch shaft to operate the round 7-pin ignition starter switch (terminals 30, 15 and 50) and uses the locking pin to lock and unlock the steering column. The side key contact switch tells the warning buzzer that the key is in the lock. On diesel vehicles there is also a vacuum valve on the housing flange that stops the engine when the key is turned back.
Installation location: on the steering column jacket tube behind the lower dashboard trim, clamped with a hex socket screw.
How can you tell that an ignition lock is faulty?
- The key is hard or impossible to turn
- Steering stays locked despite the key because the locking pin is stuck
- Starter motor does not turn because terminal 50 gets no contact
- Loads on terminal 15 drop out intermittently

Diesel vehicles additionally need the vacuum valve A 000 460 02 84 – it is not included in the scope of delivery. On gasoline engines the valve flange stays empty.
⚠ Important: compare before buying
Exact Mercedes number: No Mercedes number is stamped on the housing, only the Neiman stamp 1900.01. The lock belongs to the steering lock family A 124 462 20 30 / 31 30 / 35 30, which according to the Mercedes parts catalog is installed in the W124 and W201. Please compare the design and connector layout 1:1 with your old part.
Diesel shut-off valve missing: The flange for the vacuum valve is empty. On a diesel, the engine cannot be shut off with the key without the valve A 000 460 02 84 – the valve is available separately.
Automatic with selector lever lock: Vehicles with a selector lever lock need the housing version with a mount for the Bowden cable – please compare with the old part.
Late W126 (1990–1991): according to the Mercedes parts catalog, approved only for individual versions of this family – please inquire with your VIN.
Does not fit:
- W123 and W126 up to approx. 1989 – older steering lock design with Neiman stamp 0160
- W202 C-Class, W210 E-Class and newer models

How do I get a matching key?
Mercedes can have a key made from the lock code number (dealership, proof required), specialist shops read the key code out of the cylinder, or you install a new lock cylinder with keys.
Will the lock match the rest of my locking system?
No, the lock comes with its own keying and does not match the doors and trunk unless the cylinder is re-keyed.
