Used, without key. At removal, function was tested with the key available at the time: the cylinder turned smoothly, the mechanism engaged correctly. The key itself has since been lost. Further details: see photos.
Function and location
The steering lock from the W201/W124 model generation consists of a solid die-cast block with lock cylinder, locking pin arm and round ignition starter switch (terminals 30/15/50). When the key is removed, the locking pin locks the steering column.
It is installed on the steering column tube under the steering column trim, fastened via the flange holes.
How can you tell if an ignition lock / steering lock is faulty?
- The key is hard to turn or won't turn at all
- The steering column stays locked despite the key being inserted
- The ignition starter switch no longer switches terminals 30/15/50 cleanly, so ignition or starter fail to engage
- The mechanism no longer engages audibly when turning the key

This steering lock carries the housing stamping 1900.01, as used on the W201/W124 generation (production period approx. 1982–1997).

- Diesel models (the version with two vacuum ports is required there)
- the older design of the W123/W126 era (stamping 0160 / 0160 S)
- W202 / W210 (different steering lock family)
- vehicles with immobilizer/transponder from later model years

No. The part is supplied without a key. At removal, function was tested with the key available at the time; the key itself has since been lost.
How do I get a matching key?
Mercedes can cut a key from the lock number (proof of ownership required), specialist personnel can also read the lock code directly from the cylinder, or you fit a new lock cylinder with keys; matching blanks are freely available.
Does the lock match the rest of my vehicle's lock system (doors, trunk)?
No, the lock comes with its own keying and does not match the rest of the lock system unless you have the cylinder re-keyed. It is also suitable as a parts donor for the housing, locking pin and ignition starter switch.
