Vehicle system and function
Steering lock of the W201 and W124 model series: die-cast housing with lock cylinder, locking bolt to the steering column and round ignition starter switch with terminals 30, 15, 15R, 15X, 50 and P30. When the key is removed, the locking bolt extends and locks the steering shaft. The small contact on the side of the housing signals the warning buzzer that the key is in the lock. The diesel version additionally carries the vacuum valve with two nipples: when the key is turned back, the vacuum is switched through to the shut-off vacuum actuator on the injection pump, and the engine stops.
Installation location: On the steering column jacket tube under the steering column trim, bolted via the clamp flange.
Condition: Used and tested: The enclosed key turns smoothly through all positions, and the steering wheel lock engages when the key is removed. Genuine Mercedes key with square head. Vacuum valve with both nipples, ignition starter switch and warning buzzer contact 124 545 01 14 with cable and connector housing 012 545 84 28 are fitted. Casting with age patina, no breaks.

Important distinction – please check before buying
⚠ Diesel version
Gasoline vehicles have a version without vacuum valve, automatic vehicles from around 1990 a version with cable connection. Please compare housing shape and connections with your old part.
⚠ Separate key code
The lock is supplied with its own lock cylinder and the enclosed key. The doors, glove box and trunk lid of your vehicle cannot be opened with this key. Anyone who wants to keep a uniform key code can have the cylinder of their old lock transferred.
⚠ Compare connector layout
Over their production period, the W201 and W124 model series were delivered with different wiring harnesses. Please compare the round ignition starter switch and the small warning buzzer contact with your old part using the pictures.
⚠ Does not fit:
- W123, W126 and W116 – different steering lock design with different cylinder
- W202, W210, W140 – different steering lock family
- Vehicles from other manufacturers with an externally similar steering lock
- Automatic vehicles with cable between steering lock and selector lever

FAQ
Can I continue to use my existing key?
Only if the lock cylinder of your old lock is transferred into this housing. Without conversion, the enclosed key goes with this lock.
Has the lock been tested?
Yes. The key turns through all positions, and the steering wheel lock engages when it is removed.
