Function and location
The connecting link closes a timing chain supplied open or cut to length into an endless loop. One link plate carries the two press-fitted pins, and the mating plate is fitted and riveted during installation. This allows the chain to be threaded through and closed without removing the crankshaft or camshaft.
It is installed in the timing chain case, at the point where the chain is joined together when threaded through – usually accessible at the top near the camshaft sprocket.
