Function and location
The crankshaft sprocket is the drive gear of the timing drive: it sits at the front of the crankshaft and drives the two-row duplex timing chain, which on the M110, via the idler pulley and guide rails, drives both overhead camshafts at a ratio of 1:2. It is installed at the front end of the crankshaft behind the timing case cover, secured against rotation by a key; the pulley and vibration damper sit in front of it.
