Function and location
The 40-tooth camshaft sprocket is the driven gear of the timing drive and takes up the duplex timing chain from the 20-tooth crankshaft sprocket; 40 to 20 teeth give half the camshaft speed relative to the crankshaft. The six holes save weight and serve as mounting openings.
The sprocket is installed at the front end of the camshaft, under the valve cover or behind the timing case cover, centred by a key and bolted in place. Installation requires knowledge of the timing drive and should be carried out by qualified personnel.
