New part from stock in the original Timken box (box code 40024 0595 11), ring stamping ENGLAND. The cone is unused, with no running marks visible on the rollers; the yellowish residue on the film and metal comes from the preservative. The box itself shows storage wear.

The cone is the rotating half of a tapered roller bearing: inner ring, tapered rollers and cage form a non-separable unit that sits on a shaft or steering knuckle. Together with the separate outer ring in the housing, the bearing absorbs radial and one-directional axial loads simultaneously.
