Tapered roller bearing set Timken M86649 & M86610 (set number 99401) – NOS new part as pinion bearing for differential housings, bore 30.16 mm.

NOS – unused in original box · Cone & cup as a factory-matched set · Bore 30.16 mm / width 21.43 mm

Condition of this part

New part from stock in the original Timken box. Cone and cup are unused, with no running or rust marks. Alongside the numbers M86649 and M86610, the box carries the set number 99401 – Timken's designation for the factory-matched set of cone and matching cup. The box itself shows storage wear.

Function and location

Tapered roller bearings absorb radial and axial loads simultaneously. Cone (inner ring with rollers and cage) and cup (outer ring) are a lapped-together pair that are separate, are only brought together in the housing, and may only be replaced together. Installation is in opposing pairs, whose preload is set via a spacer sleeve or shim washers. Design: TS, single row, separable.

The classic installation position is the pinion bearing in the differential: the cup is pressed into the housing, the cone sits on the pinion shaft. This bearing type is also used in other axle and gearbox housings.

Compatible vehicles

The following applications are documented for this bearing size:

  • Toyota – rear axle pinion bearing, OE number 90368-30002 (among others Corolla, Celica, Corona, Starlet, Tercel, Camry, Previa, RAV4, Highlander)
  • Jeep – Dana 30 front axle, outer pinion bearing, from model year 1992 (version with spacer sleeve)
  • Ford – 8-inch rear axle, pinion bearing
  • Ford Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac and Mercury Mountaineer 2006–2010 (set number SET309)

Use on Mercedes-Benz vehicles is not documented and is explicitly not claimed here.

Part numbers: Cone M86649, cup M86610, listed under Timken set number 99401. Cross-reference/replacement numbers named in the documented applications: OE 90368-30002 (Toyota) and set number SET309 (Ford Explorer / Mountaineer 2006–2010).

⚠ Important: compare the part number before buying

Please match bore, outside diameter and overall width against your old part – the dimensional comparison is decisive, not the number alone. Note on catalog specs 30.16 × 64.29 × 16.67 mm: that is the cup width; the overall width T of the set is 21.43 mm – both figures describe the same bearing.

Does not fit:

  • Mercedes-Benz – use on Mercedes vehicles is not documented
  • Variants M86649R / M86610R, M86649G as well as versions with PX2 suffix – different tolerance and material versions
  • Jeep Dana 30 before model year 1992 – different pinion bearing arrangement there
  • Combining a new cone with a used cup (or vice versa) – destroys the bearing

FAQ

What's included in the scope of delivery?

The exact scope of delivery can be seen in the product photos.

Why aren't cone and cup replaced individually?

Both are a factory-lapped pair (set number 99401). A new cone with a used cup (or vice versa) destroys the bearing – that's why only the complete set is ever used.

Does this bearing also fit a Mercedes vehicle?

Use on Mercedes-Benz is not documented and is not claimed here. Documented applications are on Toyota, Jeep and Ford axles; in every case, the dimensional comparison with the old part is decisive.
