Condition of this part
New old stock (NOS), unused. The bearing shells are still bundled with the original paper wrappers; the running surfaces are bright and free of scoring, with only slight storage patina on the backs. The box shows signs of use, with knocked corners and a yellowed works slip. Sold untested, as no test bench is available.
Function and location
The set forms the plain bearing support of the crankshaft in the engine block. Five bearing positions, each with an upper and a lower shell made of steel backing with sintered bearing material, absorb combustion and inertial forces and keep the bearing clearance constant via the oil film. The undersize 0.25 version is 0.25 mm thicker-walled and is therefore intended exclusively for a crankshaft already ground to this size.
The shells are installed between the crankshaft's main journals and the crankcase or the main bearing caps, at the bottom of the engine block. Accessible only with the engine disassembled – replacement is therefore a task for specialists experienced in engine building.
