Condition of this part
Factory-new, unused NOS stock (4 pieces) in the original Federal-Mogul/TRW box, Made in Germany. The outer box shows clear storage marks: one end is torn open, the lid fold is torn and the label is soiled. The valves themselves are flawless – stems mirror-bright with a preservative film, seat faces cleanly machined, keeper grooves sharp-edged, no wear marks, no surface rust. The valves are sold untested.
Function and location
The exhaust valve closes off the exhaust port in the cylinder head and opens it during the exhaust stroke so the hot combustion gases can escape. It is the most thermally stressed component in the valve train – these TRW valves are therefore made in a bimetal design with heat-resistant head material, a Stellite-armored seat and a chrome-plated stem.
The valve is installed on the exhaust side of the cylinder head. It runs in the valve guide, is actuated by the overhead camshaft via bucket tappets, and is secured with valve keepers in the three stem grooves.
