Condition of this part
Used removed part, untested. The housing is complete and free of cracks, with no signs of burning or melting, and the labelling is complete and clearly legible. The black plastic shows fine scratch and brush marks as well as matte abrasion spots. The flat connectors show a uniform grey oxide layer, one of them a brownish discoloration; there is no pitting or rust. The mounting tab is clean, slightly tarnished, and not bent. Rivets and copper contacts are exposed at the base edge, as is typical for this design. No functional test was carried out.
Function and location
VOLTA offers this three-pin relay with a normally-closed contact under the name Control-Link as an accessory for tow bar wiring kits; the trade lists it under wiring kit accessories in the relays and control units group. It does not sit on the engine, but works in the turn signal and control lamp circuit of trailer operation. The terminal assignment is printed on the housing: the coil is between terminals 86 and 30, the normally-closed contact between 30 and 87a.
The relay is installed in the wiring harness of the wiring kit behind the dashboard or at the fuse box, in each case in the turn signal and control lamp circuit of trailer operation.
How can you tell a trailer turn signal relay is defective?
- The trailer's turn signals do not work or stay dark, even though the vehicle's own turn signals work normally
- The trailer operation control lamp in the dashboard stays off or does not flash in time
- The trailer's turn signal function is irregular or intermittently fails
The housing is stamped with the manufacturer mark VOLTA (Made in Germany), the designation Control-Link, as well as the details 12 V 21 W and the number 80 00 30. The date code 07/90 dates manufacture to July 1990; the four-digit postal code is still from before the 1993 postal code reform.
⚠ Important: compare before buying
VOLTA offers the Control-Link series in several power ratings – this relay is the 21-watt version 800030. It is a universal accessory part with no vehicle-specific assignment; the trade lists it without a vehicle list.
Does not fit:
- VOLTA Control-Link 42-watt version (different power rating)
- VOLTA SIK15 universal relay
- VOLTA 8544-1205
- Applications with a classic turn signal relay (terminals 49, 49a, 31) – this is a pure normally-closed relay with terminals 86, 87a, and 30
- 24-volt applications

FAQ
Has the relay been function-tested?
No, no functional test was carried out. It is sold as a used removed part in the condition described.
Does the relay fit my vehicle?
It is a universal accessory part with no vehicle-specific assignment; the trade lists it without a vehicle list. Please compare the terminal assignment (coil 86/30, normally-closed contact 30/87a) and power rating (12 V 21 W) with the relay fitted in your wiring kit.
How does this relay differ from other VOLTA models?
This is the 21-watt version 800030 of the Control-Link series, not the 42-watt variant. It is also not a classic turn signal relay with terminals 49, 49a, and 31, but a pure normally-closed relay – and distinct from the also available models VOLTA SIK15 and VOLTA 8544-1205.
